Flush Doors

Flush Doors

Flush doors are flat, plywood sheets or panels, around a hollow or solid core. They can be steel, fiberglass, wood, glass, or similar material. They are popular for use in public and commercial buildings.

Moulded Doors

Moulded Doors

Moulded doors have molded “skins” applied over a hollow or solid core. They can be hardboard, steel, or fiberglass. Molded doors offer an economical alternative to traditional Stile and Rail doors.

Stile & Rail Doors

Flush Doors

Stile and Rail doors are made of separate pieces of wood. Stiles (vertical) and Rails (horizontal) hold individual panels. These panels can also be glass, called “Lites.” Stile and Rail doors are generally the most expensive type of door to produce.

Nothing Compares to Strength and Beauty

Stile & Rail Door Components

The strength of a door comes from the sum of its parts.

Technically, a door is defined as a movable, usually solid, barrier for opening and closing an entranceway, cupboard, cabinet, or the like—commonly turning on hinges, or sliding in grooves. The door has been an integral architectural feature of structures for centuries.
Stiles & Rails
Stiles are the vertical wood members of the door and Rails are the horizontal members. The stile with the door knob/lockset installed is called the Lock Stile. The stile with the hinges attached is called the Hinge Stile.

Door Trivia

Over time, they because useful to keep exterior climates separated from interior climates, to contain noise, to control or impede traffic, to provide privacy, and then… to enhance the appearance of the front or interior of a structure and even to exhibit style.

Door Size & Phrasing

Doors have unique terms related to their measurements and size. It is a simple format to understand. Phrasing the doors size is important when talking to customers and to understanding what exactly is desired.

Quite simply, doors are measured in feet and inches, first indicating the width, then the height, and the thickness.

Example: A door is 30in wide by 80in tall and 1 3/4in thick…

  1. Converted to feet, this is 2ft 6in wide by 6ft, 8in tall, 1 34in thick OR
  2. It is phrased as a 2/6 x 6/8 x 1 3/4 (“Two six by six eight“) door

The standard height of a door is determined by whether it is an interior or exterior door. Standard heights of doors:

  • Interior: 6ft, 8in (80 in) tall (or 6/8)*
  • Exterior: 6ft, 8in (80 in) tall (or 6/8)* OR 8ft (96in) tall (or 8/0)*
